Tinubu International Conference Centre Fully Booked Till 2027: Wike

Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, announced that the recently rehabilitated Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre is fully booked until 2027. Wike shared this information in Abuja during the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal by President Bola Tinubu, marking the president’s second year in office.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike recounted that the FCT Administration faced criticism for allocating significant resources to refurbish and upgrade the conference centre to international standards. Despite initial condemnation from some quarters, the centre recently hosted an ECOWAS meeting, demonstrating its renewed capacity and appeal.

Wike highlighted that both individuals and organizations are now eager to utilize the facility for their events. He pointed out the irony in the situation, noting that while Nigerians often criticize such projects, they ultimately appreciate and seek to benefit from them. He stated, “As I speak to you, that conference centre has been booked now till 2027. No space.”

The minister further mentioned an application by the Deputy Speaker regarding a constitutional amendment event, emphasizing the high demand and the necessity for timely payment to secure a booking. Wike stressed the importance of maintaining the facility through such revenue.

Wike commended President Tinubu for his decisive actions aimed at advancing the country, acknowledging that effective leadership often involves making choices that invite criticism. He remarked on the inevitability of public opinion but reaffirmed the need for action-oriented governance.

He also addressed the ongoing challenges in the country, emphasizing that leadership is about taking bold steps to improve the lives of both affluent and less privileged citizens. Wike expressed that the development of infrastructure such as the Kugbo bus and taxi terminal, along with projects in Mabushi and the Central Business District, is part of efforts to enhance public transportation in the FCT.
