Nouakchott: The Islamic Committee of the International Crescent concluded its 39th regular session in Nouakchott by adopting resolutions aimed at bolstering humanitarian efforts in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The session, held on July 9 and 10, 2026, emphasized supporting the capacities of national Red Crescent and Red Cross societies.According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the committee highlighted the importance of enhancing access to humanitarian aid, protecting relief and medical workers, and intensifying support for crisis-affected groups, particularly in regions such as Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, the Sahel region of Africa, and the Lake Chad Basin.The committee approved reports from various departments and programs, including the International Crescent Department and the OIC Red Network, and endorsed their work plans and budgets for 2026. It underscored the need for continued documentation of Israeli violations in Palestinian territories and called for the establishment of a specialized center in cooperation with the Palestinian and Jordanian Red Crescent societies.Furthermore, the committee urged member states to fulfill their financial contributions to expand humanitarian responses and approved a budget of US$2 million for 2026. It also re-elected Ambassador Ali Mahmoud Bouhadma and Ambassador Babiker Ba as Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, for a two-year term starting July 9, 2026. The Chairman was tasked with organizing the fortieth session's date and venue.
