Nouakchott: The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, emphasized the critical role of strategic partnerships among governments, development finance institutions, sovereign wealth funds, academia, international organizations, and private investors in fortifying health systems within OIC countries.
According to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, this statement was made during the Regional Investment Forum in the Health Sector, an event organized by the Islamic Center for Development of Trade in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and the Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. The forum took place in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from July 13th to 14th, 2026. Dr. Ahmad Sengendo, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs, delivered the speech on behalf of Mr. Taha, highlighting the OIC's commitment to advancing the health sector in its member states. He pointed out the significant potential within OIC Member States and stressed the importance of boosting intra-OIC investment and trade in the health sector to create regional value chains for the production of medicines, vaccines, medical devices, laboratory equipment, and digital health technologies.
The forum, held under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, seeks to enhance investment and trade exchange in the pharmaceutical and medical equipment sectors among OIC Member States.
