Victoria: The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure, welcomed Mr. Frantz Celestin, the Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for East, Horn, and Southern Africa, at Maison Qu©au de Quinssy.
According to African Press Organization, Mr. Celestin, alongside the IOM Chief of Mission for Mauritius and Seychelles, Ms. Alia Hirji, extended congratulations to the Government and people of Seychelles on the country's 50th anniversary of Independence. Minister Faure expressed gratitude for IOM's enduring partnership with Seychelles, notably its assistance in formulating the Seychelles National Diaspora Policy, which was launched in July 2024.
The discussions emphasized the engagement with the Seychellois diaspora. Minister Faure informed the delegation about the creation of the Ministry's new Diaspora Affairs Division, highlighting the Government's dedication to strengthening connections with Seychellois abroad and promoting their ongoing contribution to national development.
The meeting also involved an exchange on migration trends and labour mobility, with both parties acknowledging the significance of effective migration management in bolstering Seychelles' socio-economic progress.
Minister Faure and Mr. Celestin reiterated their mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation on migration governance. This includes areas like labour mobility, migration data, diaspora engagement, maritime security, combating trafficking in persons, ethical recruitment, and climate-related migration.
