TEN partners launch new Scholarship scheme

The TEN partners, in the Jubilee oil field have launched the Tertiary Scholars Aid Project to give hope to children whose parents lack the ability to fund their tertiary education in the seven coastal districts of the Western Region.The Scholars Aid project under the theme: 'Economic Development Through Education' would cover seven coastal districts are; Shama, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Effia/ Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Ahanta-West, Nzema-East, Jomoro, as well as Ellembelle.Under the Scholars' project, 100 students who would be pursuing courses in the Public Universities, Colleges of Education, and Colleges of Health in Ghana would be assisted.Aid would cover the entire duration of the programme for each beneficiary, depending on the programme and institution enrolled, providing a holistic support package.Mr Edmond Fiifi Enchil, the Social Performance Manager of Tullow Ghana said over the period, it had invested in the socio-economic needs of their operational commun ities.He said, 'We started with KG, primary, and SHS projects over the last five years and now and have invested in over 1500 students.'Mr Enchil added that the company was focusing on employability and agribusiness growth to provide career pathways for the many graduates the company had churned out.The new Scholarship project would run a six-year renewable cycle.Mr Vincent Annan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (STCCI) and the Implementing Partner explained that a dedicated website had been created to ensure that students interested in the scheme applied online.After scrutiny, successful applicants would have an all-round payment of all that it took to enjoy a tertiary level Education.Beneficiaries would be entitled to laptops, stipends, hostel, or accommodation fees.Mr Annan continued that 'it will be transparent selection process based on academic merit and financial need, ensuring that the most deserving candidates are chosen.'Mr Georg e Effah, the Acting Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) said education, should be accessible to all.The scholarship therefore presented hope and a brighter future and applauded Tullow and its partners for introducing such a massive social intervention,' Mr Effah added.Nana Professor Akyipim Nkrumah III, the Chairperson of the occasion noted how critical it was to develop the human capital of any developing nation and appreciated the kind gesture of the Jubilee partners to grow the human potentials of the Region.Source: Ghana News Agency
