Abuja: The South-West region of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has emerged victorious in the first-ever FAAN regional football competition held in Abuja. FAAN Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, made this announcement at the tournament’s closing ceremony, noting the event’s commencement on June 16.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Kuku, represented by Mr. Rindap Domtur, the FAAN Acting Regional Manager of North Central, attributed the South-West region’s success to the staff’s experience and dedication to football. She also acknowledged the efforts of the North-West and South-East regions, who secured the second and third positions, respectively, and encouraged other regions to improve in the next edition.
Mrs. Kuku emphasized the authority’s commitment to enhancing staff fitness and teamwork through sporting events. She expressed satisfaction that there were no injuries during the competition, highlighting the event’s spirit of camaraderie. Looking ahead, she promised improvements in kit availability and accommodations for the next edition and mentioned plans for a female football competition and other sporting activities.
Mr. Olatokunbo Arewa, Regional General Manager of South-West FAAN, praised the tournament’s organization, which he said fostered teamwork among staff. Represented by Mr. Eidenagbon Austine, the International Terminal Manager at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Arewa noted that the motivation and dedication of the South-West players were key to their success. He urged the management to continue such events to keep FAAN staff fit and motivated.
Mrs. Gladys Omotosho, Chairman of the FAAN Staff Sport Committee, also commended the tournament’s participants. As General Manager of FAAN Welfare Management Services, she highlighted the event’s role in enhancing efficiency and effectiveness among staff, fostering collaboration among individuals from diverse backgrounds and locations. Omotosho expressed optimism that the tournament would help create a productive and cohesive team that aligns with the Managing Director’s vision for the staff.
