Abuja: The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has formalized a key agreement with MAG International Links Ltd to develop City Walk Abuja, a project inspired by the City Walk concept in Dubai. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place in Abuja, marking a significant step in the city’s urban development plans.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced that the project will span approximately 200 hectares, integrating a mix of residential, commercial, retail, hospitality, institutional, and healthcare facilities. The MoU outlines specific work plans and timelines, ensuring that MAG International Links Ltd delivers the project as agreed. Wike emphasized the importance of compliance with these terms, warning that failure to adhere could result in the revocation of the land.
Minister Wike highlighted past issues with land allocation in the area, noting that many recipients had not developed the land as intended. He stressed the government’s intention to monitor this project closely to avoid similar issues. The project will be located in the area previously designated for Abuja Technology Village, which has remained undeveloped for two decades.
The development of City Walk Abuja is seen as a crucial component of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ aiming to attract investors and create employment opportunities. The project will commence with a foundation laying between July and August, with the first phase expected to be completed by May 2026, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
The minister assured MAG International Links Ltd of full support from the FCTA, as directed by President Tinubu, to encourage investment in the Federal Capital Territory for national development. He also confirmed that the FCTA would provide necessary infrastructure, such as access roads, to facilitate the project’s commencement.
Dr. Kassim Gidado, Executive Director of MAG International Links Ltd, expressed confidence in the project, noting the favorable investment climate in the FCT. He stated that City Walk Abuja would offer a unique urban experience, blending local culture with modern amenities to transform the Lugbe axis into a world-class destination.
