Ondo Council Lifts Ban on Scavenging, Scrap Metal Dealings

Okitipupa: The Chairman, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mr. Andrew Ogunsakin, has announced the lifting of the ban on scavenging and scrap metal dealings in the area.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, this decision follows a comprehensive profiling and registration process of individuals and operators involved in the business within the region. The council initially imposed the ban on April 23 due to security concerns, but has now resumed activities after ensuring that all participants are properly documented.

The council had mandated the profiling and registration of scavengers and scrap metal operators as a preventive measure against criminal activities. The successful completion of this exercise has seen the biodata of all registered scavengers securely recorded in the council’s database, with provisions for continuous updates and new registrations.

To maintain order and safety, the council has issued official identification jackets and numbers, identity cards, and branded stickers to all verified scavengers. Mr. Ogunsakin emphasized that only those with these identifiers are authorized to operate in the area, warning that anyone found without them will face arrest and prosecution.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious or illegal activities to the relevant security agencies or the local government. Mr. Ogunsakin reassured the community of the council’s dedication to fostering a secure and organized economic environment for all legitimate businesses in Okitipupa LGA.
