Dangote’s Okpella Cement Secures Int’l Management Certification

Okpella: The Dangote’s Okpella Cement Limited has secured the Integrated Management System (IMS) Certification, following a successful audit.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) communicated the conferment of the certification to Okpella Cement Limited in recognition of its commitment to quality, safety, and health standards across its operations. Plant Director Mohammed Ismaeel, at a ceremony in Okpella, Edo, highlighted that the IMS certification journey has transformed their management practices into a cohesive system aligning with global standards for quality, environmental stewardship, and occupational health and safety.

Ismaeel emphasized that the certification reflects the company’s vision to be a global leader in cement manufacturing, aiming to earn respect for its product quality, services, and business conduct. The certification brings benefits such as global recognition, business continuity, waste reduction, enhanced customer satisfaction, improved product quality, a strengthened quality culture, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

The certificate was presented to the company’s management by Anil Rao, the Head of Quality Control and IMS Team Lead at Okpella Cement Limited. Rao stated that one of their objectives is to build an integrated management system framework to ensure consistent product quality, environmental responsibility, and safe working conditions. This milestone strategically positions the plant as a global leader in cement production, respected for its quality products and services, and prepares the plant for further ISO certification.

Rao explained that the Okpella Cement Limited’s IMS certification process was designed to align the company’s operations with three key international standards: Quality Management System (QMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). The certification process followed a structured three-phase route: Capacity Building, Implementation, and Performance Evaluation and Certification.
