Santiago - Over the past 25 years, Morocco has undergone a "remarkable metamorphosis" thanks to a series of "major reforms" initiated by HM King Mohammed VI, writes the daily "La Tercera", Chile's leading print media.The Chilean newspaper stated, in two pages of its Tuesday's edition dedicated to Morocco's achievements over the past 25 years on the occasion of the Throne Day, that the Sovereign "has focused his efforts on Morocco's economic development, encouraging domestic and foreign investment and promoting growth to generate jobs".It pointed out that "the country has seen significant expansion in the tourism, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors", recalling in this regard the Green Morocco Plan, "an initiative aimed at modernising the agricultural sector and boosting food production".For "La Tercera", "this strategy made of Morocco a major player on the global agricultural scene".The Chilean newspaper then reviewed the reforms initiated by the Sovereign, referring in particular tothe creation in 2004 of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER), the launch of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) in 2005, the recognition of the Amazigh language as an official language, the new development model and renewable energy projects.La Tercera also shed light on the new revision of the Family Code (Moudawana), Morocco's Africa policy, the water highways project and Morocco's strategy for encouraging biodiversity.With regard to relations between Morocco and Chile, "La Tercera" recalled the two countries' 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations, celebrated three years ago, noting that Morocco is home to an office of ProChile, Chile's official economic promotion body and one of the major offices in the region.Cooperation between Morocco and Chile also covers the exchange of experience and best practice in promoting women's rights and strengthening women's participation in political, economic and social life, through training and awareness-raising programme s.Lastly, the Chilean newspaper referred to bilateral cooperation agreements in the cultural and academic fields, bringing the Moroccan and Chilean peoples closer despite geographical distance.Source: Agence Marocaine De Presse
