Author Urges Aspiring Writers to Seek Mentorship

Abuja: An author, Mr. Oluwatobi George, has advised aspiring writers who are struggling to complete their books to seek guidance from mentors. George gave the advice in Abuja during the launch of his book, ‘New Breed, The Regenerated Man.’ The author, who is also a teacher at Cherryfield Secondary School, Abuja, noted that writing a book can be a difficult process, especially for first-time authors, which could cause them to abandon their projects.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, George emphasized the importance of mentorship, suggesting that a mentor can help aspiring writers stay consistent. He encouraged writers to start by writing anything they can and then seek someone with writing experience to guide them. He also recommended joining forums for writers to gain motivation from peers engaged in similar pursuits.

George stressed that writers should not be discouraged by the misconception that people no longer read books, asserting that a significant number of readers still exist. He urged writers to persist in their dreams, work diligently, and surround themselves with supportive individuals to achieve their goals.

Addressing financial challenges, George advised writers to focus on their writing first, as support might come from unexpected sources such as relatives, friends, or organizations. He called on governments, organizations, and individuals interested in creative works to assist prospective authors facing financial hurdles in publishing their works.

George highlighted that lack of funds is a major challenge due to the high cost of publishing materials, which can deter writers from completing their projects. However, he encouraged writers to prioritize their writing, as opportunities for support may arise unexpectedly.

Furthermore, George urged Nigerian youth to leverage social media tools for personal and professional growth rather than succumbing to addiction. He acknowledged that social media has been beneficial in accessing tools that facilitate publishing processes.

Discussing his book, George, an agriculture teacher, shared that his inspiration came from both his professional background and a spiritual revelation. He connected his teachings in genetics and breeding better animal breeds with a biblical perspective from 2 Corinthians 5:17, leading to the conception of his book’s central message.

He explained that the book aims to convey messages of God’s unconditional love and redemption, likening God’s transformative power to a farmer seeking a better breed for higher productivity. George emphasized the importance of utilizing the full potential of salvation, which he believed many Christians are unaware of.

In conclusion, George disclosed that it took him up to seven years to publish the book due to inconsistency. However, he persevered, feeling compelled by a divine purpose to complete and share his work.
