Xi Commits China as Trustworthy Partner to United Nations

Tianjin: China will always be a trustworthy partner of the United Nations (UN), Chinese President Xi Jinping assured during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The meeting took place as Guterres attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2025 in Tianjin on Saturday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Xi emphasized China’s willingness to deepen cooperation with the UN and support its central role in international affairs. He expressed a commitment to jointly assume responsibility for safeguarding world peace and promoting global development and prosperity. Xi highlighted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of both the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the UN, underscoring the importance of multilateralism, solidarity, and cooperation in addressing global challenges.

Xi further called for restoring the UN’s authority and vitality in the current global context, suggesting that the organization should serve as the primary platform for countries to coordinate actions and tackle challenges collectively. He noted that amidst significant global changes, China has consistently provided stability and certainty and will continue to offer new opportunities to the world through its development initiatives.
