Accra: Ghana's Grace Mintah has made history as the first African woman to win a gold medal at the World Armwrestling Championship. The gold medalist clinched the top position in Moldova after defeating her compatriots from Sweden, Ukraine, Germany and Turkey in the women's 80kg category. The packed arena erupted in cheers as Mintah pinned down her opponent to win Ghana's first world medal.Mintah, a Police Officer gained her first global experience at the 2023 World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia, where she failed to enter the medal zone.The athlete made a comeback in her career to dominate the continent, winning the African championship back-to-back and a double gold at the 2023 African Games.The two-time African Champion speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports said 'This is a dream come true for me. I am so grateful to my President Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, family, coaches, Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for their unwavering support'.She said the win was a beginning of something great as a world champion.Grace Mintah and the team return home on Sunday as a national heroes and heroines inspiring a new generation of armwrestlers to follow in her footsteps.Source: Ghana News Agency
