Trinity University Inducts, Licenses, Charges Graduate Nurses to Uphold Professionalism

Lagos: The Vice-Chancellor of Achievers University, Owo, Prof Omolola Irinloye, has urged newly inducted Trinity University (TU) graduate nurses to see nursing as more than a profession but a call to responsibility, sacrifice, and service. Irinloye, a Guest Lecturer, gave the charge during her presentation at the institution’s induction ceremony for its second set of nursing graduates, held on Wednesday at the City Campus, Yaba, Lagos.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Bachelor of Nursing Science graduates were inducted and presented provisional licenses by Mr. Ndaggi Alhassan, CEO/Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). Irinloye described nursing as a profession dedicated to upholding everyone’s right to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health through shared commitment to collaborative, culturally safe people-centered care and services.

Irinloye emphasized that the distinguished characteristics of a graduate nurse include high standards of professionalism, effective communication, and interpersonal skills, along with ongoing diligence and continuous learning. She highlighted that nursing offers vast opportunities beyond hospitals, including leadership, advocacy, global mobility, digital health, and specialization.

The ceremony also featured Dr. Olalade Fadipe, Commissioner IV of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, who advised the inductees to uphold ethics, embrace continuous learning, and place professionalism at the center of their nursing practice. Fadipe commended the graduates’ dedication over the past five years, urging them to apply scientific knowledge with empathy in real-world practice.

Prof Clement Kolawole, Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, described nursing as a lifelong calling rooted in compassion, service, and care. He encouraged the graduates to lead lives defined by excellence and humanity, stressing the importance of compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication.

Mr. David Oyejide, Registrar of Trinity University, noted that the Nursing programme blended academic excellence with practical training, equipping students with the skills needed to meet global healthcare challenges. He emphasized the university’s commitment to producing globally competent nurses through rigorous academic and clinical training.

The event underscored the university’s dedication to excellence in nursing education as a national investment, with a curriculum that integrates global health trends, technology, and ethics to prepare graduates for responsible leadership and professional distinction.
