Abuja: President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday convened a meeting with governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform at the State House. The meeting precedes the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) session scheduled for Thursday at the State House Banquet Hall.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the gathering was led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF). The closed-door meeting aimed to fortify the party’s framework and enhance its capacity to provide governance to the Nigerian populace.
Governor Uzodimma, speaking to State House correspondents, explained that the governors met to align themselves with the President on the party’s direction and governance priorities. He underscored the importance of discussing strategies to bolster the party from grassroots levels up to the national stage.
“We are here to discuss the upcoming National Executive Committee meeting of our party tomorrow, and to also share some ideas with Mr. President on how best to strengthen our party at the grassroots, at the local government, at the state level, up to the national level. So, it’s just a convivial discussion with Mr President towards strengthening our party and to be able to help serve Nigeria better,” Uzodimma stated.
When queried about potential outcomes of the NEC meeting, Uzodimma noted, “We can’t predict anything until we get there tomorrow.”
The NEC meeting is anticipated to tackle essential party issues and devise strategies for unity and effective leadership. Furthermore, the appointment of a new substantive APC National Chairman is expected to be on the agenda, following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje in June.
