Nouakchott: His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, convened with His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nouakchott, Mauritania. According to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the discussions centered on the potential for collaboration between the OIC and Mauritania. The dialogue focused on strengthening and broadening existing partnerships, as well as aligning on regional issues and priorities concerning joint Islamic action. During the engagement, the Secretary-General expressed gratitude to the President of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, for his nomination to the OIC post. The Secretary-General acknowledged the diplomatic efforts led by President Ghazouani that culminated in his unanimous election. He recognized Mauritania's contributions to the OIC and its commitment to advancing joint Islamic initiatives. Furthermore, the Secretary-General appreciated the hospitality extended by the President during his visit, highlighting the guidance received as indicative of Mauritania's dedication to enhancing the OIC's effectiveness and promoting Islamic solidarity. Both parties reiterated their commitment to enhanced cooperation and consultation between the OIC and Mauritania, aiming to address issues pertinent to the Islamic world and meet the aspirations of the Member States.
