Madrid - Morocco has moved up a gear to exploit its strong offshore wind potential and increase its wind generation capacity, writes Spanish media outlet 'El Economista' on Monday.To this end, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) is committed to promoting the development of an offshore wind industry, drawing on the experience gained in this field to develop a first offshore wind farm off the coast of Essaouira, the media reports.Supported by a 2 million euro grant from the European Investment Bank (EIB), this project marks a major step forward for the Kingdom in this field, it points out in an article entitled 'Morocco signs with the EIB to speed up its offshore wind energy projects and join Portugal and France'.Citing World Bank Group estimates published by the 'Offshore WIND' platform, the publication states that Morocco has 200 gigawatts (GW) of potential offshore wind capacity, of which 22 GW is most suitable for fixed-bottom turbines.Source: Agence Marocaine De Presse
