South-East Will Work for Tinubu’s Re-election, Says Umahi

Lagos: The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu, stating that the South-East Geo-political Zone is committed to his re-election campaign. Umahi made these remarks during a conversation with journalists, emphasizing the region’s backing for the President.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Umahi dismissed claims that the South-East was imposing conditions, such as the release of Nnamdi Kanu, for their support of President Tinubu. He clarified that while the region is open to negotiating Kanu’s release, it should not be considered a precondition for backing the President, as Tinubu was not responsible for Kanu’s detention.

Umahi described President Tinubu as a leader who listens and expressed belief that Kanu’s release would be achieved through divine intervention and dialogue rather than through political pressure. He praised Tinubu’s handling of the economy, noting the international community’s confidence in the President’s reforms, which has led to increased support for infrastructure projects.

Highlighting the administration’s accomplishments in the South-East, Umahi pointed to ongoing rehabilitation of neglected roads and dismissed allegations of the region being marginalized in federal appointments. He asserted that President Tinubu has done more for the South-East than many previous leaders.

Umahi also urged political unity among leaders, regardless of party lines, and noted that South-East governors, including those from opposition parties, were collaborating effectively with the President. Furthermore, Umahi stated he has no intention of running for the presidency in 2027, pledging his support for Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He concluded by affirming the South-East’s strengthened position at the national level, rejecting any notion of regression and emphasizing the importance of the APC in achieving their goals.
