Abuja: The Senate on Wednesday passed the N124.2 billion 2024 budget of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF). The passage of the budget occurred following the consideration and adoption of the report from the Senate Committee on Police Affairs during a plenary session.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Vice-Chairman of the committee, Sen. Yunus Akintunde (APC-Oyo), presented the report which detailed the committee’s review of the proposed N124.2 billion budget for the Fund. The budget allocations include N1.2 billion for personnel costs and N98.6 billion for capital expenditure.
In the budget proposal review, the committee noted that the allocated funds would be directed towards training police officers, as well as the rehabilitation and construction of police stations. Other targeted areas in the budget include barracks and clinics nationwide, along with the procurement of compressed natural gas (CNG) and related interventions.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, commented on the approved expenditures, expressing hope that they would enhance national security. He emphasized the importance of proper oversight by the committee to ensure that the appropriated funds benefit the police and the nation effectively.
