SCO Unveils Ambitious Development Blueprint at Tianjin Summit

Tianjin: The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has outlined a new development plan at its recent summit in Tianjin, aiming to enhance its role in regional peace and stability, as well as promote shared prosperity. The summit concluded with the signing and adoption of key documents, including the Tianjin Declaration and a strategic plan for the period from 2026 to 2035.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the outcomes of the meeting included a statement supporting the multilateral trading system and statements marking the 80th anniversary of WWII victory and the founding of the United Nations. Additionally, 24 documents were signed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as security, economy, and cultural exchanges.

The Tianjin Summit has succeeded in building consensus, pooling resources, and igniting new momentum for cooperation across various fields, contributing to global governance. Since its inception in 2001, the SCO has grown into the world’s largest regional organization, exemplifying a new model of international relations.

Guided by the Shanghai Spirit, the SCO has achieved significant milestones in peace and development at both regional and global levels. The summit showcased the SCO’s dedication to fostering greater development, ensuring a more equitable global governance system, and promoting solidarity and cooperation within the Global South.

A significant highlight of the summit was Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposal of the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) at the ‘Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus’ meeting. The initiative is based on five principles: sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and a focus on real action.

The GGI represents the fourth major global initiative proposed by Xi in recent years, following the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. The GGI aims to address the global governance deficit and aligns with the common aspirations and urgent needs of the global community.

The initiative received widespread support from leaders of countries and international organizations present at the event and is expected to gain further recognition globally. The summit also saw the expansion of the SCO family, with Laos joining as a dialogue partner, highlighting the organization’s dynamism and openness.

From Tianjin, the SCO embarks on a new journey with enhanced responsibility and efficiency, aiming to contribute significantly to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
