ROSOWA Supports Abuja Orphanages with Essential Donations

Abuja: The Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA) has extended its charitable efforts by donating food and other essential items to two orphanages within the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative is part of their activities to mark the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the ROSOWA President, Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, highlighted that this gesture reflects the association’s dedication to community development and ongoing support for the less privileged, particularly orphans. She emphasized that the donation was not only in celebration of the global week but also a demonstration of love and care for the most vulnerable individuals in society.

Shehu-Mohammed remarked that the outreach aligns with the global campaign for safer roads, while also showing compassion and solidarity with vulnerable communities. She pointed out the dual focus of road safety, which includes both enforcing traffic laws and caring for lives, especially children who are significantly affected by unsafe roads.

The ROSOWA President stressed the importance of the week-long event as a reminder of the urgent need for safer roads, improved mobility, and inclusive support systems. She reiterated that the association’s presence at the orphanages symbolized a commitment to ensuring that the children are not forgotten amidst their challenges.

Dr. Shehu-Mohammed encouraged the public, particularly those who are more privileged, to emulate ROSOWA’s gesture and support the underprivileged in their communities. She affirmed that everyone has a role to play in fostering a safer and more inclusive society.

Mr. Cephas Thaddeus, Administrator of the Hope for Survival Orphanage, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the orphanage, noting that ROSOWA’s donations arrived at a crucial time when resources are limited. He acknowledged the positive impact the items would have on the children’s well-being.

Similarly, a representative from the Mother Theresa Orphanage praised ROSOWA for its continued support and compassion, urging other organizations and individuals to follow their example. The representative noted that such support significantly boosts the children’s morale and provides them with hope.

The donated items included foodstuffs, toiletries, beverages, and other daily necessities, aligning with the theme of the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week, ‘Streets for life: Making Walking Safe, Make Cycling Safe.’ This theme underscores the importance of inclusive and sustainable transport systems to protect lives, especially those of cyclists and pedestrians.

ROSOWA’s outreach is part of its broader humanitarian and advocacy efforts, which support the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021-2030), aiming to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50 percent.
