Recess Opportunity to Deepen Engagement with Constituents, Says Nwoko

Abuja: Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta) has emphasized that legislative recesses should be seen as a time for increased engagement with constituents rather than a period of inactivity. Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District and serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, made this assertion during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nwoko stated that his responsibility as an elected representative is to ensure that the voices of his constituents are heard and prioritized. He stressed the importance of accessibility and remaining attuned to the needs of the people, regardless of the political calendar. “Recess is therefore not a time for politicians to go off grid. It is the best time to connect, listen, and address the issues that matter most to the people,” he remarked.

Nwoko has been actively involved in several engagements with his constituents over the past few weeks. He highlighted that these initiatives aim to address pressing concerns within the constituency. The senator expressed his enjoyment of the recess period, as it allowed him to engage in meaningful discussions with his constituents to better represent their interests.

During this time, Nwoko conducted town hall meetings across his constituency to discuss local issues, gather feedback, and co-create solutions with constituents. He also took the opportunity to update his constituents on the progress of creating Anioma State and encouraged support from Anioma sons and daughters both home and abroad.

In addition to these engagements, Nwoko used the recess to inaugurate various community service initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities within the region. He noted that effective governance involves building relationships with constituents and being actively involved in their lives.

Nwoko also established open forums for dialogue between constituents and local leaders to ensure inclusive policy-making processes. He introduced programs to support and empower local entrepreneurs, enhance economic growth, and ensure sustainability for the Anioma people. Additionally, initiatives aimed at involving youth in governance and civic activities were launched to prepare the next generation for leadership roles.

The senator emphasized the need for unity among all party stakeholders in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections. He called for all APC members, regardless of religion or interest, to unite to consolidate the party’s hold at both the federal and state levels. “We must propagate the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Bola Tinubu, the successes of the administration as well as ensure we engage in grassroot politicking,” Nwoko concluded.
