Abuja: Queen Lilian Adebayo, wife of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential hopeful, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared her full support for his 2027 presidential ambition. Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she highlighted her husband’s unwavering commitment to the SDP since joining the party in 1991.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Queen Lilian described her husband as a loyal party member and a visionary leader who has consistently upheld his political beliefs. She expressed confidence in Prince Adebayo’s experience and determination, asserting that he possesses the qualities needed to lead Nigeria toward progress if elected president. Queen Lilian emphasized that her husband has remained dedicated to the SDP, despite opportunities to join other political parties.
Queen Lilian acknowledged the internal challenges faced by the SDP but noted the party’s ability to resolve conflicts through dialogue and unity. She expressed optimism about her husband’s chances in the forthcoming election, citing the need for fresh, credible, and youthful leadership in Nigeria. She urged Nigerians to vote based on performance and vision rather than political sentiment or incumbency advantage.
On the topic of women’s participation in politics, Queen Lilian called for greater female representation in governance. She argued that women bring essential qualities such as compassion, balance, and emotional intelligence to leadership and advocated for their increased involvement in decision-making processes.
Responding to claims that women often fail to support one another in politics, Queen Lilian disagreed, attributing divisions to men who often stir conflict among women. She expressed her commitment to supporting women in leadership and highlighted the importance of standing together.
Queen Lilian also expressed delight at a recent award she received, seeing it as a recognition of her contributions to social causes and women’s empowerment. She expressed that the honor inspires her to continue advocating for women and contributing to national development.
NAN recalls that Prince Adewole Adebayo, a lawyer and long-time member of the SDP, contested the 2023 presidential election and is expected to formally declare his intention to run again in 2027.
