Peter Obi Reaffirms Commitment to Single Four-Year Term

Lagos: The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has strongly reiterated his commitment to serve only a single four-year term if elected President of Nigeria. Obi asserted that this period would suffice to achieve his vision of a new Nigeria.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Obi emphasized the importance of short yet impactful leadership, citing historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela, who left enduring legacies despite their brief tenures. He argued that staying in power longer increases the risk of corruption, especially among African leaders.

Obi expressed his belief that true statesmanship is defined by purposeful and accountable service, regardless of its duration. He acknowledged the prevalent mistrust in politicians but maintained that his track record speaks for itself, stating, “My word is my bond.”

Addressing skepticism about his vow, Obi noted sarcastic remarks suggesting he undergo a psychiatric evaluation for committing to a single term. He highlighted his fulfilled promises during his political career in Anambra, which included improvements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, all achieved without deviation.

Obi emphasized his resolve not to exceed a four-year term, underscoring that impactful service does not require a lengthy tenure. He outlined his administration’s priorities, which include governance reform, tackling insecurity, prioritizing education and healthcare, alleviating poverty, and fostering small businesses.

He further pledged to transform Nigeria into a productive nation focused on agriculture, technology, and manufacturing, moving away from a rent-seeking and wasteful economy. Obi concluded by reaffirming his dedication to leadership with integrity and his intent to deliver on concrete promises within the stipulated timeframe.
