Abuja: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Mr. Jude Ezenwafor as its candidate for the upcoming November 8 governorship election in Anambra. The announcement was made following a congress meeting held by the party on Tuesday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Cornell Onwubuya, who is the Chairman of the Anambra Governorship Election Congress Committee, confirmed that Ezenwafor was the sole aspirant in the race and received 798 ‘yes’ votes. During the congress, it was noted that 26 votes were declared invalid, while a total of 853 delegates were accredited out of the 999 that were listed for the event. The congress was conducted at the Women’s Development Centre in Awka, adhering to the PDP’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, Ezenwafor declared that the PDP is on a mission to rescue Anambra, calling on voters to support the party’s efforts to reclaim leadership in the state. He expressed his commitment to returning the PDP to the Anambra Government House and encouraged local government area and ward chairmen to act as automatic coordinators for the party’s campaign efforts.
Mr. Chidi Chidebe, the PDP Chairman in Anambra, emphasized that the party is approaching the election with renewed energy and unity. He reflected on Anambra’s past decision to reject the PDP and expressed optimism about the party’s chances this time. He highlighted the return of former members who had left the PDP for other parties, only to find less favorable conditions elsewhere. Chidebe stressed that the PDP is the strongest party in Anambra and is poised to challenge the ruling party, urging members to unite and ensure victory in the upcoming election.
