Ikorodu: An Ikorodu resident and student, Mr Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon, has been given a cheque of one million naira, having emerged as the One-Day Governor of Lagos State. The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Adesina, presented the cheque at the council secretariat.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adesina also celebrated excellence by presenting bursary awards to deserving indigent students of Ikorodu. Fifty indigent students received N40,000 each, while the one-day governor was awarded one million naira. Abdulrahmon, a student from Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, was the winner of the 20th edition of the state’s Spelling Bee Competition.
Appreciating the chairman, Abdulrahmon expressed gratitude for the support on education and the fulfillment of promises regarding youth empowerment in Ikorodu. Speaking on behalf of the students, the President of Ikorodu Students Association, Miss Rofiat Oshineye, also expressed gratitude to the chairman for prioritizing education.
Earlier, the chairman stated that the council had been committed to education despite economic constraints. His administration has continued to prioritize education through bursaries, scholarships, school infrastructure upgrades, and digital learning initiatives. Adesina emphasized the importance of education in shaping the future and urged beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of Ikorodu.
Adesina advised the students to maintain their thirst for knowledge and discipline, acknowledging that some came from humble beginnings. He also praised Abdulrahmon for proving that greatness is a reward for hard work and perseverance, not a privilege for a select few.
