Abuja: Some elders under the aegis of the Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Movement have pledged to deliver over 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. The Chairman of the Movement, Sen. Nimbe Farunkanmi, made this announcement during a meeting held by the group in Akure.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Farunkanmi emphasized that the APC Elders Movement is a coalition of the party’s elders who aim to speak with one voice to prevent crises and promote unity within the party. He expressed confidence that 90 percent of the votes cast in Ondo State would favor President Bola Tinubu, and the group plans to take all necessary steps to achieve this goal.
During the event, Mr. Jamiu Ekungba, one of the party’s leaders, highlighted the meeting’s purpose: to unify members for mobilization, with registration based on commitment. Ekungba pointed out that the party is actively encouraging people to register at the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the group’s mission is fulfilled.
He noted the success of past efforts, stating that achieving 366,000 votes for the governor in the last election was remarkable. Ekungba reiterated the goal of delivering 1.5 million votes for Tinubu, emphasizing the importance of persuading voters to participate actively in the election.
Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, the wife of the late deputy governor of Ondo and current federal commissioner representing Ondo in the National Population Commission, noted that the focus shifted to the 2027 general election following the Nov. 16 governorship election. She stressed the importance of unity and the elders’ movement in achieving electoral success for President Tinubu.
Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunleye, another party chieftain, explained that the elders’ intervention aims to unify the party and rally support around the leaders. He mentioned that the support groups would be consolidated under the “Ondo State for Tinubu 2027” umbrella to maximize votes for President Tinubu in the upcoming general election.
