Nollywood: AGN Partners With Tobechi Achionye for Autism Advocacy Film

Abuja: The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and Tobechi Achionye, an autistic artist known as Kind Toby, have announced a collaboration to produce a film advocating for autism awareness. The decision was formalized during a meeting at AGN’s National Secretariat.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the initiative aims to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and promote acceptance, inclusion, and support for individuals with autism. Enema Rollas, AGN National President, emphasized that the project aligns with the guild’s vision of promoting inclusivity through its projects, aiming to educate the public about the challenges and strengths of individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as the challenges faced by their caregivers.

The collaboration is also seen as a strategic step towards celebrating World Autism Awareness Day in 2026, where the film will be premiered. Mrs. Noni Okocha, CEO of ‘I am the Future of Nigeria Youth Initiative’, highlighted the importance of the project in celebrating the contributions of individuals with autism and advocating for greater understanding and acceptance in society. She reinforced the shared vision with AGN to make inclusion the norm in Nollywood, using film and storytelling as tools for empowerment and change.

Tobechi Achionye, a creative visionary and founder of ‘Be Kind by Toby: A Vision for Change’, promotes autism awareness and inclusivity. His journey, including being a second runner-up in Autism’s Got Talent in Atlanta, USA, serves as an inspiration, showcasing how neurodiversity can be a strength. This collaboration with Nollywood actors is expected to create awareness and provide new opportunities for young talents with autism and disabilities in the creative sector.
