NIPR Tasks NUJ on Promotion of Nation’s Reputation

Abuja: The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has urged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to institute the culture of reputation building and management for the nation in its professional conduct. The President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, made the call in his remarks at the 70th Anniversary Gala/Award Night and Book Presentation of the NUJ in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Neliaku expressed the NIPR’s pride in being identified with the NUJ during the celebration of its milestone achievement. He commended the NUJ President, Alhassan Yahya, for bringing past national leaders of the union to celebrate its 70th Anniversary.

Neliaku highlighted three key aspects of the NUJ’s journey: the journey of responsibility from 1955 for Nigeria’s liberty, the story of relevance, and the story of resilience. He emphasized the importance of reputation as a core asset of individuals, organizations, and the nation.

He urged the NUJ to focus on telling the nation’s stories from a perspective that highlights the positive aspects of Nigeria, countering narratives that may not be in the country’s best interest. Neliaku reiterated the need for the media to prioritize Nigeria’s reputation in their reportage.
