Nigeria to Host 4th African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit

Abuja: Nigeria is set to host the 4th African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) with the aim of enhancing the continent’s natural resources through strategic, cross-sector collaboration for sustainable development. The summit will take place from July 14 to July 17 in Abuja and is anticipated to be a pivotal platform for harnessing Africa’s abundant natural and energy resources to foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event will facilitate trade and knowledge sharing, support the development of enabling policies for the natural resources sector, and highlight investment opportunities across the continent. The summit will gather visionaries, policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders who are committed to unlocking Africa’s natural wealth. This year’s theme will focus on uniting professionals from mining, energy, agriculture, and finance sectors alongside policymakers to devise bold solutions for sustainable growth through local innovation and collaboration.

The 2025 summit aims to foster partnerships and attract investments to Nigeria, with the Minister of Solid Minerals Development expected to emphasize reforms positioning the mining sector as a key driver of Nigeria’s industrial growth. The four-day event will also focus on the theme: “Harnessing Local Content for Sustainable Development.” This theme seeks to solidify partnerships that emerged from multi-billion-dollar investment deals during the G20 summit in New Delhi in 2023, while also opening new avenues for collaboration with Nigeria’s business community.

A notable highlight of the summit will be the unveiling of a lithium processing plant, reflecting the push for local value addition. The project is expected to create jobs, support technology transfer, and drive industrial growth. The summit will bring together senior dignitaries from over 25 nations, along with executives from prominent organizations such as the African Development Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), among others.

Building on the success of previous editions, AFNIS 2025 will continue the discourse initiated in 2022, where the sustainable development of African natural resources was highlighted. The 2023 summit focused on the need for a just and equitable transition towards a greener Africa. The 2024 agenda emphasized the crucial role of Africa’s abundant natural resources in fueling economic prosperity and empowering marginalized communities.
