Abuja: Prof. Shadrach Akindele, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Redeemer’s University, Ede in Osun, has urged graduating postgraduate students of the institution to use the knowledge acquired to develop practical solutions to challenges facing the country. Akindele said this during his address at the 17th convocation ceremony of the university, tagged ‘The Indomitable Set,’ on Friday in Ede.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the VC emphasized the urgent need for practical solutions, citing challenges such as climate change, energy, poverty, healthcare disparities, and ethical crises in technology. He encouraged the graduates to view their degrees as a contract with society, tasked with the responsibility of creating sustainable solutions for both local and global communities.
Akindele highlighted that a total of 338 students were awarded higher degrees and diplomas. Specifically, 109 students received postgraduate diplomas, 65 were awarded Master of Arts degrees, 120 received Master of Science degrees, 25 earned Master of Business Administration degrees, and 19 were conferred with Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
He further urged the graduates not to view their new qualifications as the end of their academic journey but rather as a starting point. He emphasized the importance of ongoing research, encouraging them to publish their findings and engage actively in scholarly discussions worldwide.
The ceremony also included the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees, with one being awarded to Omolewa Ahmed, the wife of the former Kwara governor, marking another highlight of the event.
