Niger Government Allocates N250 Million to Empower 2,500 Women in Kontagora

Kontagora: The Niger government has empowered over 2,500 women in Kontagora Local Government Area with N250 million as part of Governor Umaru Bago’s women empowerment initiative aimed at boosting their businesses.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Hajiya Hauwa Bako, the Special Adviser to the governor on Social Investment Programme and Focal Person for the National Social Investment Programmes, distributed the grant to the beneficiaries on the governor’s behalf. Bako stated that each beneficiary received N100,000 to enhance their business operations.

Bako outlined that the initiative’s goal is to support women-led nano-businesses and promote community-driven development and inclusivity. The program prioritizes women from various backgrounds, including Fulani women, women with disabilities, widows, and those from low-income households, ensuring a broad reach within Kontagora and its surrounding areas.

The selection process for beneficiaries involved contributions from traditional community leaders, women leaders, and religious leaders to ensure deserving candidates were identified.

Beneficiaries such as Hadiza Bala and Larak Isah from Kawo Village expressed gratitude towards the Niger government for the support, pledging to invest the funds into their current businesses to improve their income and livelihoods.
