NDDC Conducts Scholarship Test for 6,000 Applicants in Niger Delta

Port Harcourt: The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has successfully conducted a Computer-Based Test (CBT) to select candidates for its 2025 Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship programme. Chief Boma Iyaye, the Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the NDDC, made this announcement to journalists, highlighting the participation of approximately 6,000 applicants from the nine states across the Niger Delta.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Iyaye explained that the scholarship programme, initiated in 2010, has consistently produced professionals equipped with technical knowledge and expertise to thrive in various sectors. He emphasized the commission’s dedication to human capital development, which is seen as a crucial factor in providing opportunities for individuals in the Niger Delta. He noted that the number of applicants was relatively low due to some candidates’ inability to submit necessary documentation and information.

Outlining the scope of the recent examination, Iyaye detailed that the CBT was conducted over three days, with 6,000 applicants participating. Despite the significant financial investment required for the foreign scholarship programme, he assured that the NDDC is committed to maintaining it. Furthermore, Iyaye disclosed the commission’s plans to expand the scholarship initiative to include undergraduate studies at Nigerian universities, thus enabling more local students to benefit from the programme.

Dr. George Uzonwanne, Director of Education, Health, and Social Services at the NDDC, emphasized the importance of quality education in national development. He highlighted the scholarship programme’s role in producing highly skilled professionals capable of significantly contributing to sectors like the oil and gas industry. Uzonwanne also pointed out that the programme equips young individuals with the necessary skills for effective participation in federal local content initiatives, enhancing their competitiveness globally.

Uzonwanne expressed confidence in the transparency of the selection process and assured the continuation of the scheme. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the scholarship programme encompasses disciplines in sciences, engineering, agricultural science, environmental science, geosciences, information technology, management sciences, law, and architecture.
