Rabat - President of the National Observatory for Human Development Othman Gayer met in Rabat on Thursday with representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to Morocco Marielle Sander, to discuss means of bolstering cooperation between the Kingdom and the UN agency in terms of promoting women's status and gender equality.The meeting also provided an opportunity to tackle the Kingdom's efforts in promoting human rights and gender equality and to consolidate the rights of women and girls, among other matters.On this occasion, Gayer highlighted the measures taken as part of the Social State project, which will help consolidating maternity rights and childcare, as well as promoting positive fatherhood.He reiterated the government's commitment to adopting population policies built on gender equality, which can guarantee full access to social protection services and sexual and reproductive health rights for all.Gayer also pointed out that the generalization of social protection and establishm ent of the National Population Register and the Unified Social Register are capable of providing a support base for the transformations the country is undergoing, in the context of a demographic transition with multiple challenges.For her part, the UNFPA representative noted that Morocco has a global development vision that represents a model to be followed and an advanced experience that can be shared with Arab and African countries.Sander told MAP that, thanks to the new development model, the Kingdom has succeeded in achieving development in all provinces, ensuring that no one is left behind, including women, young people and children.She further mentioned the partnerships between UNFPA and Morocco, notably with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, departments UNFPA works with to improve young girls and women's sexual and reproductive health and to promote the situation of women victims of violence.Source: Agence Marocaine De P resse
