Lafia: Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed into law a Bill for an Act to Provide for Menstrual Hygiene Products for Girls in Nasarawa State Public Schools by Nasarawa State Government and other Related Matters Therewith. The Speaker of the House, Dr. Danladi Jatau, announced the passage of the bill during a plenary session in Lafia.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the speaker commended the sponsor of the bill, Dr. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim (APC- Nassarawa Central), for initiating the legislation. Jatau emphasized the timeliness of the bill in addressing the needs of girls in public schools across the state. The bill titled ‘A Bill for a Law to Provide for Menstrual Hygiene Products for Girls in Nasarawa State Public Schools by Nasarawa State Government and Other Related Therewith’ was read for the third time and passed.
Following the passage, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the bill for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s assent. The bill’s third reading was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Suleiman Azara, and seconded by Mr. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House, leading to its unanimous approval.
In a related development, the House also passed for second reading a bill aimed at establishing the Nasarawa State Education Development Trust Fund. This bill, intended to facilitate various educational developments, was committed to the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology, which is expected to submit its report by May 12.
The motion for the second reading of this educational development bill was moved by the Majority Leader, Mr. Suleiman Azara, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr. Luka Zhekaba, receiving unanimous support from the House.
