Labour Party NEC Ratifies Nenadi Usman as Interim National Chairman

Abuja: The Labour Party (LP) National Executive Council (NEC) has ratified and inaugurated the interim National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator Nenadi Usman as Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, this ratification was detailed in a communique released following the NEC meeting held in Abuja. The communique was endorsed by Governor Alex Otti of Abia and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Chief Sylvester Ejiofoh, along with other key figures such as the BOT Secretary, Alhaji Salisu Mohammed, and the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Joe Ajaero.

The communique stated that the meeting was convened by statutory NEC members according to the party’s Constitution and following the Supreme Court’s decision, which confirmed the end of Mr. Julius Abure’s tenure. The NEC unanimously approved the formation of the Interim National Working Committee (INWC) under Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership as the Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the interim National Secretary.

The NEC also laid out a schedule for conducting Ward Congresses, Local Government Area Congresses, State Congresses, Zonal Congresses, and the National Convention of the Labour Party. The National Secretariat has been tasked with publishing guidelines and timelines to ensure transparent and democratic elections at all levels. Additionally, statutory committees will be formed to oversee Membership Revalidation and New Member Registration nationwide, working alongside the National Secretariat, State Chairmen, and relevant stakeholders to ensure credibility and inclusiveness.

The communique also highlighted the NEC’s review of the party’s participation in the upcoming Anambra Gubernatorial Election and other scheduled by-elections in senatorial districts and federal constituencies. The NEC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, rule of law, and adherence to the party’s constitution, urging against any parallel structures or activities inconsistent with its resolutions.

The NEC called for unity among stakeholders, members, and supporters to build a strong and ideologically driven political movement aimed at rescuing Nigeria. It also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to fulfill their duties impartially and professionally to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in the upcoming contests.

During the meeting, Senator Darlington Nwokocha expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in the interim NWC and pledged to work in line with its mandate and relevant guidelines.
