Dutse: The Jigawa Government has initiated the disbursement of N1.5 billion in pension entitlements to 569 beneficiaries. This announcement was made by the Head of Service, Alhaji Muhammad Dagaceri, during an address to the beneficiaries at the Pension House in Dutse, marking the formal commencement of the exercise.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the disbursement process is being conducted through the Local Government Contributory Pensions Board. Dagaceri highlighted the state’s pension model as one of the most exemplary in the country, noting that more than 20 states have visited Jigawa to study its approach. He also commended Governor Umar Namadi for his steadfast commitment to sustaining and enhancing the pension scheme, acknowledging the governor’s significant support and efforts in improving the scheme for retirees and the broader civil service community.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the pensions board, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu, revealed that over N1.5 million would be allocated to the 569 retirees. This amount covers various payments, including retirement benefits, death benefits, and death pension balances. Shitu detailed that 278 beneficiaries are from the state service, 158 from local governments, and 124 from Local Education Authorities (LEA), among others. Specifically, N.87 million will be disbursed to state service retirees, over N355,025 to local government employees, and N274,798 to those from LEA.
Shitu affirmed the board’s commitment to the timely disbursement of entitlements, ensuring the payment of monthly pensions in the first week of every month. He further reiterated the state government’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of its workers, emphasizing the importance of providing a secure and fulfilling life for workers after their years of service.
