Port Louis: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with Hon. Dhananjay Ramful, Mauritius’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, for a 35-minute discussion. The meeting underscored the strategic importance of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, a pivotal region connecting Asia and Africa.
According to African Press Organization, Minister Iwaya emphasized Mauritius’s role as a crucial partner in promoting a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) founded on the rule of law. He expressed Japan’s intent to enhance bilateral cooperation ahead of the upcoming TICAD9 summit next month.
Minister Ramful conveyed his gratitude for Japan’s collaborative efforts across various sectors. He highlighted the strong bilateral relations and conveyed optimism for deepening these ties, particularly in the economic sphere.
