Bwari: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) inaugurated a committee to oversee the admission process for under-aged candidates. The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this during the inaugural meeting of the committee members in Bwari, FCT.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the committee is tasked with determining modalities for assessing ‘specially gifted candidates.’ These candidates include 599 under-aged individuals who scored 320 and above in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The committee will establish criteria and timelines to select exceptionally brilliant candidates for admission into tertiary institutions.
Prof. Oloyede highlighted that the meeting included virtual participation from Vice Chancellors of Nigerian universities, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. The committee aims to announce candidates who meet the criteria by September. School certificates and post-UTME scores will be evaluated, with a minimum requirement of 80 percent in both assessments.
The registrar emphasized the importance of adhering to the minimum age of 16 for admissions, while also recognizing the need to encourage exceptionally talented young candidates. The panel will operate in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri. He urged parents to avoid pressuring their children into early tertiary education and warned against bribery in the admission process.
