ICE Arrests Bahamian National with Criminal Record Who Illegally Voted in US Elections

Decatur: The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the arrest of Anthony Tyrone Higgs, a Bahamian national with a significant criminal history, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Decatur, Georgia. Higgs, who has been involved in numerous violent crimes including armed robbery and assault on a police officer, was also found to have illegally voted in past U.S. elections. According to Homeland Security, Higgs was apprehended by ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Atlanta on September 3 and is currently held by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). His criminal record includes two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, two counts of grand larceny, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest, among others. An investigation by HSI Atlanta in August 2026 confirmed that Higgs had unlawfully participated in the 2020 election. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, "This criminal alien f rom the Bahamas has a rap sheet for multiple violent crimes, including armed robbery, domestic violence, and assault on a police officer. On top of all of that, he illegally voted in the 2020 election. If even one non-citizen votes in our elections, it cancels out the vote of an American citizen. Thanks to the hard work of the men and women of ICE, this criminal will be removed from our country and can never interfere in our elections again." Higgs, who entered the United States as a Lawful Permanent Resident in October 1976, now faces removal proceedings as DHS seeks to revoke his LPR status due to his criminal activities. This case is part of the Trump Administration's ongoing efforts to prevent non-citizens from voting in U.S. elections. Other recent instances include the arrest of Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales from Colombia, Marian Charitun from Slovakia, Denise Nataly Migliore from Australia, and several others, all charged with illegally voting in various elections across the United States. In add ition to these arrests, DHS has implemented measures to ensure election integrity. These include Secretary Mullin's warning letters to state secretaries, FEMA's new requirements for grant recipients concerning election security, and stricter penalties enforced by ICE for non-citizens who vote unlawfully.
