GreenHubAfrica Launches Youth Network to Train 50,000 on Climate-Smart Innovation

Abuja: The GreenHubAfrica Foundation, a prominent non-governmental organization focused on environmental sustainability, has launched the Climate Action SuperHeroes (CASH) Youth Network. This digital-first platform aims to empower and train 50,000 young individuals in climate-smart innovation and circular-economy enterprises.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the foundation inaugurated the network in Abuja during the commemoration of the 2025 World Environment Day and Exhibition, known as WEDex. Mr. Henry Bassey, the Chief Executive Officer of GreenHubAfrica, emphasized the foundation’s vision for a greener and more sustainable continent. He highlighted the significant employment and empowerment opportunities within the waste management value chain, noting the economic benefits of engaging youth in the sector.

Bassey also mentioned the success of the organization’s 2024 CASH school outreach program, which has seen participants excel by applying the knowledge gained. He reflected on the evolution of WEDex from a virtual event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic to a growing movement, marking the 2025 edition as a milestone in overcoming the pandemic’s challenges.

Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia, President of the Nigerian Environmental Society, addressed plastic pollution as the second major challenge in municipal solid waste management in the country. He called for collective efforts to combat this crisis, highlighting the private sector’s crucial role and urging the government to create an enabling environment for its success. He stressed the importance of addressing gaps in waste management processes, such as waste separation and recycling facilities.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5, with the theme for 2025 being “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
