Fubara Returns as Emergency Rule Lifted

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has lifted the State of Emergency in Rivers State, directing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly to resume their duties on Thursday. In a statement released Wednesday, the President announced that this decision follows the restoration of peace and order in the state.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the emergency rule was initially imposed on March 18 due to political tensions and a breakdown in governance. The President expressed satisfaction with the return of calm and emphasized the importance of resuming democratic governance and maintaining institutional stability in Rivers State.

The President stated, “It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers shall end with effect from midnight today.” He further instructed that Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martins Amaewhule, will resume work in their offices from September 18.

With peace restored, the focus now shifts to ensuring a smooth transition back to normal governance in the state.
