FRSC Advises Women to Be Co-Drivers to Minimize Road Accidents

Lagos: Women traveling with their husbands should assume the role of co-drivers rather than engaging in activities such as applying makeup or adjusting headgears, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Chief Route Commander Victor Okelola, from the Costain Unit of FRSC in Lagos State, provided this advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okelola emphasized that women who sit in the front seat should actively observe, caution, and advise their husbands while driving to help reduce road accidents. He noted that many wives often do not pay attention to their husbands’ driving habits as they are preoccupied with personal grooming or mobile phones, neglecting their surroundings.

Okelola urged wives to remain vigilant and to caution their husbands against speeding and other forms of reckless driving. He highlighted that driving at speeds exceeding 100km per hour is dangerous and called for adherence to road traffic rules and regulations to ensure safety on the roads.

The FRSC official also stressed the importance of ensuring vehicles are in good condition before embarking on trips. He reminded motorists that overloading, excessive speeding, and driving without a license are traffic offenses. Furthermore, he reiterated that the minimum age requirement for driving is 18 years, while 26 years is the minimum age for driving commercial vehicles.
