Lagos: Nigerian production powerhouse, Five 2 Media Entertainment, has returned to the global stage with “Remi X Nneoma,” a drama inspired by the Biblical story of Ruth and Naomi. In a statement, director Lyndsey Efejuku said the film explores themes of womanhood, grief, resilience, and intergenerational bonds.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the movie follows the journey of Nneoma and her daughter-in-law, Remi. After experiencing shared loss, the two women choose to stay together in Ikwerre, navigating the complexities of grief, societal expectations, widowhood, and the quest for healing.
The film features a distinguished cast, including Bisola Aiyeola, Liz Benson-Ameye, Uche Montana, and Ifeanyi Kalu. Supporting performances come from Eucharia Anunobi, Buchi Franklin, Martha Ehinome, Kunle Coker, Kelechi Udegbe, and Tina Mba. Screenwriters Priye Diri and Adelarin Awotedu have reimagined the ancient tale through a modern cultural lens, delivering a narrative that resonates with emotional honesty and social significance.
Central to the story is Remi, played by Aiyeola, a young widow confronting her devastating loss. Her evolving relationship with her mother-in-law Nneoma, portrayed by Benson-Ameye, anchors their transformative journey. Aiyeola described the role as deeply personal, emphasizing Remi’s strength and determination.
Producer Bikiya Graham-Douglas highlighted the film’s celebration of women’s legacy and intergenerational love, noting its challenge to societal norms while honoring the courage and transformation at the heart of female resilience.
