Lagos: Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to the well-being of Nigerians after being honored with the chieftaincy title of Iya Oba of Ikorodu in Lagos State.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the honor was bestowed upon her by the Traditional Ruler of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, during the events marking Shotobi’s 10th coronation anniversary. These activities commenced on August 2 and were part of a broader celebration of his leadership.
Tinubu, represented by the Wife of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mr. Oluremi Hamzat, expressed her gratitude for the recognition. She stated, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation to his royal majesty, the royal families, and the good people of Ikorodu for finding me worthy of this distinguished recognition. This gesture is not only a personal honor, but a call to continued service. The title of Iya Oba carries with it, not just prestige, but also a responsibility.”
Acknowledging the cultural importance of the honor, Tinubu noted the special place Ikorodu kingdom holds in Lagos and praised the industrious nature of its people. She also commended Oba Kabir Shotobi for his leadership, congratulating him and the people of Ikorodu on the 10th coronation anniversary.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau (APC Kano North) highlighted the traditional ruler’s impactful leadership, noting how it had brought many Ikorodu indigenes to national prominence. He praised Shotobi for his inclusive approach, which has transformed Ikorodu from a rural community into a business hub.
Additionally, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Traditional Ruler of Remo land in Ogun, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, expressed their admiration for Shotobi’s leadership. Retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and former Military Administrator of Lagos State, also lauded Shotobi for his contributions.
