Abuja: The Federal Government has announced that Nigeria is progressing towards achieving a sustainable power sector and ensuring a reliable electricity supply for its citizens. This was declared by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, during the inauguration of a two-storey building, featuring five training workshops and a 104-room hostel at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Minister Adelabu expressed optimism about the country’s power sector trajectory, noting the efforts of the Tinubu-led government in converting vision into tangible actions. He highlighted that Nigerians are already experiencing the benefits of advancements within the sector, citing the highest power generation and improvements in both transmission and distribution infrastructures in Nigeria’s history. Adelabu assured that the nation is on the verge of achieving 24-7 uninterrupted power supply, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to lighting up various institutions and communities across the country.
The minister underscored the importance of power as a fundamental driver for critical sectors such as education, health, and aviation. He detailed strategies for attaining sustainability in the sector, including the development of local capacity and reducing reliance on foreign expertise. Adelabu called for the enhancement of local content across the power sector’s value chain, advocating for domestic manufacturing of essential components like meters, cables, and transformers.
He affirmed that the recently inaugurated projects at NAPTIN reflect the government’s dedication to cultivating a skilled workforce to tackle the evolving energy landscape. The Director-General of NAPTIN, Ahmed Nagode, praised the initiative, emphasizing the project’s potential to transform the power sector. Nagode acknowledged the support from the EU and French Government through the Agence Fran§aise de D©veloppement (AFD), which provided crucial funding and technical assistance for the project.
