FAAN Launches Inter-Regional Sports Initiative to Boost Staff Fitness and Teamwork

Abuja: The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced its commitment to enhancing staff fitness and fostering teamwork through sports activities. This announcement was made by Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of FAAN, during the inaugural FAAN Inter-Regional Football competition held in Abuja. Representing Kuku at the event was Mr. Rindap Domtur, FAAN’s Acting Regional Manager for North Central.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Kuku emphasized the benefits of workplace sports, such as football, in promoting physical fitness, healthy competition, teamwork, and collaboration. These activities aim to contribute to a more productive and content workforce. She highlighted the importance of balancing work with play, noting, “There is this old adage that says, all work, and no play makes Jack a dull boy; it is not every time you keep talking about work, all through. While you perform your duties, you need to keep fit; you need to be happy.”

Kuku further pointed out the role of sports in integrating staff from different regions, allowing for networking opportunities and the development of valuable skills and relationships. This initiative aims to improve the overall well-being of FAAN employees.

Mrs. Omotosho Oyinye, General Manager of FAAN Welfare Management Services and Chairperson of the Sports Committee, stated that the sporting activities would help develop emotional resilience and mental toughness, thereby enhancing productivity. While she acknowledged minor challenges in coordination during the preparation phase, she noted that such issues are typical of large-scale events.

Mr. Adeleye Taiwo, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, explained that the event serves as a talent hunt to discover skilled players across regional airports. He noted that this type of competition had previously been limited to Lagos, leaving outstations feeling excluded. The current event, he hopes, will address this gap and strengthen FAAN’s participation in the Federation of Civil Service Games held annually.

This competition, which began on July 13, is slated to conclude on July 22, 2025, providing ample time for staff engagement and talent development.
