Enugu: The Initiative for Leadership Development and Change (ILDC), a Civil Society Organisation, has declared Enugu State as the safest state in the South-East. President of the organisation, Ugochukwu Nnam, shared this assessment during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nnam’s evaluation followed a recent visit to Enugu State, where he observed substantial advancements in security measures. He highlighted the Enugu Security Trust Fund, which aims to amass over N20 billion, as a pivotal factor in safeguarding lives and property. The installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems throughout Enugu, featuring advanced facial recognition and vehicle identification technologies, has significantly contributed to this achievement.
Nnam praised the state’s governor for restoring public confidence and urged other regional leaders to adopt similar strategies. He emphasized that the integration of advanced technology, as opposed to conventional security methods, has been instrumental in improving surveillance capabilities across Enugu State.
The CSO President also commended the governor for initiating the ‘Enugu Safe City’ project. He described it as a pioneering effort not only in the South-East but across Nigeria, aimed at strengthening the state’s security framework. The project focuses on establishing effective communication and surveillance systems to ensure prompt responses to security incidents.
Nnam asserted that the project would enhance the operational efficiency of security personnel and aid in effective crime prevention and detection. He concluded that Governor Peter Mbah’s initiatives have positioned Enugu as a benchmark in technology-driven security management.
