CIoD Nigeria Elects Adetunji Oyebanji as New President

Lagos: The Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD), the country’s leading corporate governance body, has appointed Mr. Adetunji Oyebanji as its 19th president and chairman of the governing council. The election occurred during the institute’s 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Thursday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oyebanji’s election marks the end of the tenure of the 18th president, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo. Mr. Bamidele Alimi, CIoD Nigeria’s Director General, announced that Oyebanji, a fellow of the institute and the managing director/chief executive of 11PLC, was elected following a duly conducted election. Oyebanji has previously served the institute in several significant roles, including first and second vice president.

Alimi noted that Oyebanji has also chaired the finance and general-purpose committee, as well as the membership and branch development committee. He expressed confidence that Oyebanji’s extensive experience and dedication to CIoD Nigeria would bolster the organization’s mission to promote sound corporate governance and ethical business practices across Nigeria. Alimi highlighted Oyebanji’s over 40 years of leadership in the oil and gas sector, noting his past senior executive roles at Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc and his current role as MD/CEO of 11plc.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Oyebanji is recognized as a community advocate and philanthropist, earning the traditional title of Otunba Olufi of Gbongan for his contributions to national development and grassroots empowerment. Alimi emphasized that Oyebanji’s leadership would further elevate the institute’s standing in corporate governance and enhance its efforts in ethical leadership development in Nigeria and beyond.

The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that Mrs. Amina’s Oyebola and Alhaji Lamis Dikko were elected as the first and second vice presidents, respectively.
