Ceasefire Anticipation: Zelensky Awaits Putin in Trkiye for Peace Talks

Ankara: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced his expectation for Russia to implement a ceasefire, stating that he will personally wait for Russian President Vladimir Putin in Trkiye on May 15. Zelenskyy made this announcement via Telegram, as reported by a Turkish news agency quoting Ukrinform.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ukraine, along with its allies France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Poland, proposed a 30-day unconditional ceasefire on May 10. The proposal aims to establish a foundation for diplomatic discussions and halt ongoing hostilities. Zelenskyy expressed his hope that Russia would not seek excuses to delay the ceasefire.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of a full and lasting ceasefire, highlighting the need to stop prolonging violence. He conveyed his readiness to engage in discussions with Putin and expressed a desire for productive talks in Trkiye.

Should Russia dismiss the ceasefire proposal, Ukraine’s allies have plans to impose stricter sanctions on Moscow. In response, Putin suggested revisiting direct negotiations with Ukraine from the point where they were last interrupted in 2022.
